Power System Studies
Discrimination Studies
A Discrimination Study can help you to prevent unwanted power loss and breaker tripping. The objective of the study is to ensure safety and continuity of power to your electrical network.
Short Circuit Studies
Short Circuit Studies assess whether your current switchgear has been sized correctly and that disconnection times are optimal to ensure the safety of the installations. We provide in-depth reports for the design of both low-voltage and medium-voltage networks.
Arc Flash Studies
Arc Flash studies are used to identify the extent of a specific hazard within your facility and to minimise or mitigate the hazard when servicing the switchgear.
EMC and Harmonics
We carry out strategic studies to ensure that your electrical design or installation complies with the Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) standards (IEC EN 61000). This can involve harmonic calculations, a power quality and harmonic survey, voltage studies and surge immunity studies.
EMF Survey and Reports
Electromagnetic Field surveys and reports are used to detect magnetic fields in areas of work, hotels and offices. We provide EMF surveys and reports, compliant with World Health Organisation guidelines, for areas near substations, transformers, high voltage ageing cables, undersized equipment and mobile phone masts.
Load flow Calculations
Power flow or Load flow studies analyse the flow of electric power in a complex and interconnecting electrical distribution scheme. We use load flow calculations to propose solutions to problems such as overload and the alternative flow of load.
Earthing & EPR Survey
We conduct earthing potential rise surveys to ensure that earthing has been undertaken in the safest way possible, which is particularly important around MV/HV switchgear and substations. These surveys are crucial where there is a high potential of hazard to people or equipment.
Transient Stability
Transient stability analysis provides the assurance of reliability and continuous power to clients. It looks at the response of an electrical system after changes or disturbances as well as dynamic system behaviours.
Cable Sizing Optimisation
Selecting a cable size for both an LV and MV installation requires consideration of the circuit protection breaker and device for the circuit. We can help you to assess the life expectancy of your cable and its suitability for re-use.
Thermal Imaging
Electrical thermal imaging surveys are used to determine overheating within an electrical installation. We can reveal whether the installation requires repair, diversions or replacement to prevent faults or future loss of power.
Land Power Feasibility
Investigating power availability to a potential Data Centre site, estimating time for power, connection of power methodology and making applications for power and/or self-generation of power. Renewable/Low Energy solutions considered.
High, Medium and Low Voltage Design
Our High, Medium and Low Voltage designs consider the overall design of the electrical network relating to power generation, distribution switchgear, protection and relay selection and power/ distribution transformers.
Power Quality and Metering Analysis
We specialise in increasing power supply efficiency with harmonic measurements. This can help you to understand your electricity bills, where on the electrical system power is being measured and where there are inefficiencies.
Commissioning Relays
Commissioning Settings, Retrofit & Modifications
We undertake commissioning of 11kV Switchboards, including relay protection settings establishin for one of our discrimination studies

Power Stations
KIPO have a track record of delivering successful power station projects and we ensure that we are always keeping up to date with latest developments in the sector. For example, we are aware that offshore generation, smart grid technology and digitalisation are just three key tends that are impacting the power sector as the world economy shifts towards greener energy.
The increased importance placed on how power is distributed, stored and protected means that we are tackling a range of new power projects to ensure that our clients are well prepared for the evolution of the power sector.
At KIPO, we have a very strong technical background in high/low voltage power distribution projects within the power stations market. Our focus on client team liaison allows us to deliver complex, precise engineering solutions to each project we undertake.
